Where can I buy / order good quality tea towels

Hi...would anyone know where I can buy / order white, cream or solid color quality tea towels so that I can sew strips of fabric on them to give as gifts? I ordered some from one place and the quality was not good, so thin and wrinkly that all I could do is use them as rags.

Thanks so much!

I have seen them at Joanns and Hobby Lobby. They are in the embroidery/cross stitch section. My friend orders his from here http://www.herrschners.com/searchpag...k=tea%20towels

Missouri Star Quilt Co sells them but I don't know the quality. I found some nice ones at Walmart. I've washed them many times with hot water and bleach and they are still nice.

Those flour sack towels are huge aren't they? I didn't even look at the individual towels. I just knew my friend bought them there and I did a quick "tea towel" search! Guess I should either a) stick to stuff I know a little more about or b) get the right information!!!!!;)

I used to also use Herrschners. the Lowell, Mass. Quilt Museum has them and Vermont County Store.

Miller's Dry Goods in Charm, Ohio (Millersdrygoods.com) has Moda toweling by the yard. They may have what you want.

Try AnnTheGran.com and AllAboutBlanks.com I think these are 2 embroidery sites that carry the nicer tea towels. There is another site but can't think of it. If I find it, I will post again.

Thanks for the Miller's Dry Goods site. They have some cute patterns and the Moda toweling looks great. Perfect for the towels that you add the strip of printed fabric for halloween or christmas.

Sometimes SAM'S carries the old fashioned tea towels that are white.

Not finished tea towels, but I purchase appropriate fabrics and serge the edges.

Mill House Quilts.com - we carry tons of them! Good Luck. Waunakee, Wisconsin

Herrschner's has them with stripes up the sides. They are very substantial towels and wear forever.

JanieH 10-05-2012 06:17 AM

I have ordered the ones from Bird Brain and they are great!

If you have a Hobby Lobby close by, they sell the same like Herrschners.

Hancock Fabrcis has hucking on their web site (and needles). My local store used to sell it on site, but haven't looked lately to see if still available locally.

Try Sam's Club. I suspect that any kitchen supply department at Costco or other similar store would have them. And they are relatively inexpensive. The towels at Sam's are so large you will need to cut them in half. I don't think they would be great for embroidery, but I beieve they would be great for the project you are describing. Just be sure you prewash. froggyintexas

two suggestions, one: Fabricdepot.com has all kinds of toweling by the yard (you can get two towels from one yard) from about 3-5 dollars a yard, good quality, if you want plain choose the Huck toweling. Or, go to the thrift shop and look for those white damask (cotton) table cloths, you can get from 4-8 towels depending on the size of the table cloth for usually two or three dollars. I have made many kitchen dishtowel sets from the tablecloths, they are soft and very absorbent.
