I like to thread about a dozen needles to have on hand as I do my hand piecing and hand quilting. Right now I have them lined up on a cut off piece of a swimming noodle (the thing that children use in a pool). This does not work because the threads do not keep separated and the noodle is not stabile. My pin cushion does not work out any better. Where do you keep your pre-threaded needles? Why not cut a piece off the bottom of the noodle so that it will sit flat?

I use a pin cushion but sometimes end up with them knotted together.

I will caution against using lamp shades. My mother used to do that and injuried herself badly by getting it embedded in her hand on night.

What about getting a small hoop, stretching a quilt sandwich into the hoop, back, batting and top fabric. Then add a pretty ribbon around the screw tightener for grabbing and for hanging. Then you can get a number of pre-threaded needles into the fabric hoop. You will then have a place to keep your used needles. You could also make either a pocket that hangs or have a pocket in back or somewhere where you can slip in some scissors and any other items you want close at hand.

There are some that make an arm chair caddy that could do the same thing. Something similiar to the thread caddy used next to the sewing machine.

I have a special pin cushion for threaded needles. And a separate one with embroidery floss.

I keep about 5 or 6 threaded on the spool and pull up ready to go as needed. End of thread is taped to top of spool.

A friend lost one in the arm of a chair and later someone was getting up, put pressure on the arm and ended up in the ER getting the needle out. LOL

There's a great notion -it's a thread dome. You stick each threaded needle into a slot and wind the middle around and the thread curls up inside. It can hold 10 or so threaded needles. I love mine. I know someone at my guild that sat on some threaded needles and had to carefully lie down in the car to be driven to the ER to have them removed. Ouch!

I use the kitchen/dining room window valance. Everyne knows they are there and always ez to find.

I use this also. It is wonderful.
