Where do you start when tying a quilt?
Do you start at the top and work your way down, or in the middle? I am doing 2 lap size quilts for presents, they are strip pieced jelly roll.

I'm pretty sure you start in the middle.

I've done it both ways on smaller quilts, but the bed size I started in the middle.

The main idea is to avoid having the backing skewing and not covering the front. Starting in the middle of the quilt is a sure way of avoiding this problem.

Thanks, I am using a curved needle with two different color embroidery floss - green and red. The quilt is Christmas prints.

Middle is where I start when I tie.

I will baste one side on lap quilts. Then pin every 6" (inches) in rows
Working from baste side away from me. I start tying. As I work, I check with my hands yo make sure fabric is smooth with no nunching. If it has then I move pin smooth out and repin. Works up fast. |

When I tied them, I always pinned them all over. About every 6-8 inches.
I sit on the floor and use my coffee table for it. I start in the middle and tie all the way across one row at a time. It wasn't very comfy sitting on the floor, but it made it so much easier. It was nice when I had my DD helping. :) |
I start in the middle of the middle row working my across to each side. Then I go to one row up and then one row down until it is done.
