I am trying to write/color on the borders of one of my UFO's. I wanted to use some type of permenant marker but can't seem to find any. I have the pigma pens but I don't want to color with them since they are so fine tipped.

So I found the fabric crayons where you color on paper and iron it on. My test did ok, didn't come off in the wash! I would have liked it to be darker but oh well.

I colored letters to have the name of the quilt in the borders. Last night I went to do it and forgot that the letters need to be drawn backwards! Boy am I glad I realized that before doing it. Now the only think I need to do is draw and color the letters backwards instead of ripping out the borders!

This is just a shot in the dark, but a friend of mine used to do cross stitch.

She would soak her floss in vinegar and let it dry before she used it, so that it would set the color and not bleed onto the clothe when she was finished with the cross stitching.

I'm wondering if that would work for the fabric crayons?

Have you tried using a laundry marker? They are permanent and very dark.

Have you tried a color fixative?

To make the fabric crayon coloring darker, you color, iron off the wax, recolor and iron off the wax, until you reach the desired darkness. Each layer will intensify the color :D:D:D

I have some fabric markers that are like a brush on one side and a fine-tip felt pen on the other. They come in a set of 8 or 10 and I used them to beef up my fabric crayon transfers. Make sure to heat set if you use that method.

Next time, you can also add regular Crayola crayon to color the fabric directly. Once waxed on, you need to iron off (use paper towels to absorb the wax.)
