My husband got me a White Featherweight for Christmas and it clicks when sewing. I gave it to a friend to check out to see if she could fix the clicking and she said it is just part of how she sounds. Anyone got any suggestions ??? She sounds rough to me, but she is gorgeous for sure. Her name is Noel!

I have a white color Featherweight and it does make the click sound when sewing, like my vintage 15-99 and my Singer 301. It's all mechanical so that is the click clacky sound. One thing, the smooth belt really works better on Featherweight then the cobbly one. If you Featherweight came with the original white belt do not get rid of the belt. It's about as valuable as the machine. Ha.

I'm not a repair person....but....is it possible that the machine need lubricant??? Not oil, this is a thick, vaseline like substance...
If you read your book, it will state where to lube it as well as oil locations.... |
My White Featherweights have a sealed motor. No lube required. The thick lube is for unsealed motors. If there are no lube openings then it is a sealed motor. Do not put lube or oil in a sealed motor. You'll ruin it.

I would love to have a white featherweight. Nice gift and I love the name you gave it. I fell in love with the white one that was on the cover of the Martha Stewart magazine years ago.

:cry: I took it to a friend that is brilliant on Featherweight machines. She said Noel is beautiful and she just has that sound. She is just fine. I only figured she would sound like her siblings...LOL. She is darling and I love her. I still can't get awayfrom using Abby (1934) She sounds sooo smooth and zips right through my mittens & some of them are really thick. As I sew through them I am constantly amazed. :thumbup: Thanks for your comments |
I have two of the black Featherweights, and neither of them make that sound. It would help your machine to oil it according to the manual or every place metal touches metal. Regular sewing machine oil will do (NOT WD40 or 3-in-1 oil) but better yet is Tri-Flow.
