Am I the only one who has trouble reading thru these rulers because of the thick yellow or green lines? I have mono vision (one eye for distance, one eye for close-up) and I don't know if that's why I have a hard time. You all might see these in my next sale.

Sadiemae 09-04-2011 12:44 PM

I love mine!

I have used one and also have the mono vision contacts. I got to where I just "knew" where to line it up to be consistent. I got a bigger (12 1/2 x 12 1/2) template now and use it for just about everything now.

quiltingcandy 09-04-2011 12:45 PM

I have several of them and really like them.

scrapykate 09-04-2011 12:47 PM

I love mine but then I have a small lamp that shines directly on the cutting area and I think that helps.

Maggiemay 09-04-2011 12:54 PM

I have 2 & yes, I have trouble seeing where the fabric is because of all of the lines!

I had to put a table lamp right over my cutting surface to see the lines too.

The direct light makes a big difference for me.

Sadiemae 09-04-2011 12:59 PM

Everyone has their own preferences. Many people like those June Taylor rulers. I am always different. The only thing I think they are good for is fleece.

maine ladybug 09-04-2011 01:04 PM

I have several and like them very much.

gale 09-04-2011 01:04 PM

I use them without problems but I don't have mono vision. I am farsighted and nearsighted at the same time though...which sucks.

Deb watkins 09-04-2011 01:15 PM

The yellow lines actually give me a headache. I prefer the black lined Olfa, with a slight 'frost' finish.

this is why i prefer the lazer-etched fluorescent rulers. they are so easy to see precisely with.

Annaquilts 09-04-2011 01:22 PM

No I do too and am not planning on buying them any more. I hate them!!!!

Jamiestitcher62 09-04-2011 01:59 PM

Hate'm, Creative Grids are all I use. I made the mistake of buying all the Omnigrids when I first started and couldn't figure out why everything wasn't quite right, the lines are way too thick for my liking.

So they sit in a drawer.

quiltgrammyt2 09-04-2011 02:05 PM

I bought a multi-pack and I can't stand them, so I feel like I wasted good money on junk!!! :|

OK you've peaked my interest - what is a laser-etched ruler, or who makes them?

LyndaOH 09-04-2011 02:22 PM

I have trouble too and I've switched to Creative Grids, which I love! Easy to see and good built in gripage, if that's a word.

OK looked them up. Sold at Connecting Threads. That's a start. Thanks

qbquilts 09-04-2011 02:33 PM

They're my preferred brand.

Mariposa 09-04-2011 02:33 PM

I have mono vision also, and I LOVE my Omnigrid and Omnigrip rulers!
Do not like the rulers with black, white, or red lines~

patchsamkim 09-04-2011 02:36 PM

I have many of the omnigrid rulers, and really have no trouble using them...but also have bought some of the Creative Grid rulers and like them too. The rulers I don't care for are the Quilter's Rule ones. I think everyone has their preferences.

Sadiemae 09-04-2011 02:54 PM

I gave away the Creative Grid rulers I had, I don't like them.

Theresa 09-04-2011 03:10 PM

At my beginning quilting class I was told to use the dots not the lines. I agree, the lines block what you need to see. I square-up and cut with the dots and the rulers work well.

nativetexan 09-04-2011 03:16 PM

i love mine but you must use what is best for you. my hubby made me change his bedroom clock. he couldn't see the digital numbers in green. had to get him red.
perhaps a ruler with only black lines would be best.

sueisallaboutquilts 09-04-2011 03:55 PM

I used to use them a lot but I bought the Olfra frosted ones and love them!!

JudyG 09-04-2011 03:57 PM

The olfa's are now my favorites too.

I love the Creative Grids rulers. I have one Omnigrid and I don't really like it much.

The Omnigrids are too "busy" for my tastes

peaceandjoy 09-04-2011 05:21 PM

Except for a 14 1/2" square, I've gotten ride of my Omnigrids because of the thick lines. I've gone to Creative Grids. The lines are much finer.

Dolphyngyrl 09-04-2011 06:37 PM

I bought 2 recently, don't know why I am an optima girl. Will probably sell them or give them away hate the lines

cathylynn 09-04-2011 08:18 PM

use my Omnigrid rulers a lot with no problems seeing thru the yellow. also like the Creative grids and absolutely love my Shape Cutter ruler.

cny_sewer39 09-04-2011 09:40 PM

I have Omnigrid rulers & I LOVE LOVE them. I love the yellow & black lines. They are easy (for me) to see on all fabric colors. I have a few other rulers that are not Omnigrid, but they are used for specific projects/patterns/techniques. If I could find other shapes available from Omnigrid, I would probably be an Omnigrid girl.

Have a blessed labor day.

Me to! I do use these without a problem, though!

They are very busy for me also and my eyes have trouble adjusting to the yellow. I only have one black lined Olfa with the slight frost, and I use it often. Have one creative grids and absolutely love it (2 1/2 by 6 1/2).

I bought an Omnigrid ruler and like others...lines too thick, hard to see due to green/yellow color As stated above, I use the dots and for me it works better, although, I won't buy anymore.

Sienna's GiGi 09-05-2011 03:29 AM

I have several types and I haven't had an issue with any of them. I like omni-grid but they are very pricey.

OK you've peaked my interest - what is a laser-etched ruler, or who makes them?

there are many fluorescent rulers out there [i just spent 20 minutes googling them] but my favorite is one i picked up at a quilt show sold by leo9textiles. i can't find a website for him. however i found a website that also sells this kind of ruler http://www.softexpressions.com/softw...reenFl.php#len
the lines are fine and there are not a lot of wide extra marks that get in the way. HTH

Suzi 09-05-2011 03:38 AM

Hmmmmmm - OK! Whoever wants to sell their unwanted rulers would you please PM me? I hate paying the store price for these things (that's why I only have 2) and am looking for the ones that you use to square up blocks. Anyone have a couple that you might want to sell??? Like 12", 8", 6" and 4" ...................

meemersmom 09-05-2011 03:55 AM

It used to be a bit of a problem for me to tell where the lines were, then I grabbed one of their half-size (ruler width is not an even number. I used to use a 6" ruler, now I use the 8 1/2" one) if that makes sense. With the "half" ruler, the thin line is the one that lines up with the edge of the fabric instead of the thicker yellow or green. I do have a circle template that almost glows it is so fluorescent green --- I can see the marking perfectly on that one no matter the color of the fabric.

nhweaver 09-05-2011 04:01 AM

I have mono vision contacts, and don't wear them when sewing anymore. I badly sewed my finger a month ago, my eye doc (friend), told me to wear my regular glasses when sewing, as the single contact gives a sight distortion in lines. I can now line up my rulers when I wear my old glasses. I didn't want to progress from sewing my finger to cutting it off with the rotary cutter. A lesson learned, my finger is still sore from the chipped bone, and needle fragments.
