I was just looking at lin's beautiful quilt for her son and the pictures of the back made me think of whole cloth quilts, which i dream to make some day. I hand quilt but absolutely hate the marking process. I usually use stencils and pencils and some times the 1/4 in. tape but have never tried the pounce pads. Has anybody used them? are they as good as they sound? what brand is best? and has anyone done a whole cloth yet?

I have made several whole cloth quilts but admit I have probably cheated as I bought them with the design preprinted on them. I also tried the pounce marking system Hope others have better suggestions but I couldn't make it work. It didn't last long enough and would be rubbed off before design was completed. This was not the fault of the pounce but more than likely the problem of the pouncer!!!

I have not seen the preprinted, where did you get them?

I am sure a local quilt shop would order them for you. If they aren't aware of where to get them, they can be ordered from Checker Distributors. You can even go online and look at them yourself and then take the information to the quilt shop to be ordered. Go to www.checkerdist.com

I have 2 but have not done either yet.

Maybe one day :D

The Stencil Company has several preprinted whole cloth quilts. I did a mini quilt from them, and I was thrilled with the results.

Keepsake Quilting has some too. I have a queen size for when I feel competent. Maybe in about 10 years. I'm in no way, shape or form as good as the people on this site!

I use pounce on some quilts. I like the blue best, it shows up on more fabrics than the white.
The best stencils are at Full line stencil.com. They are not the bulky cut out kind but have a mesh that the chalk goes thru. Very nice to work with.
Make sure you have bounced your pounce while it is closed to get it saturated before using.
