I just bought a new iron from Joann's - Singer Classic Finish. It's a great iron as far as sliding on fabric and I know it's getting really hot (don't ask how I know). When I press fabric that has been folded, it looks smooth and flat and really nice. By the time I get back to using it, I can still see the fold marks. They aren't horrible, but I never had this problem before and am tempted to go back to my old iron. The only reason I got a new iron was because the old one won't shut off any more - so I have to make sure I unplug it when I'm done.....of course that doesn't always happen and then my husband would get upset thinking I was going to burn down the house. Any ideas other than spray starching everything? I hate to do that because I don't want any extra "stuff" on my quilts when I give them away, not to mention the time and cost involved.

I have a rowenta that started doing that. The manufacturer suggested I make sure water for steam was at least half full. If I still have a problem I just spritz with water.

spray with water place in a bag and put in the fridge over night! That will sell the fibers and make them behave!

Thanks for the suggestions. I hadn't been using steam until yesterday - and I guess my memory must have failed me. I'm sure I used steam in pressing fabric with my old iron....DUH! Can we blame this on "having a senior moment" - I have a lot of those!!

i keep a spray bottle of water on the end of my ironing board-when i want to remove fold creases i give them a spritz of water- when i don't want to use starch

My SIL worked in a childrens clothing factory for years and she told me to keep a spray bottle of vinegar water to either remove exsisting folds or to make new creases perminate
