Our homes are filled with all kinds of appliances , washers , refigerators , mixers... you name it .... if any one of them needed to be replaced I would be upset about the expense , but the idea of having one of my sewing machines being at the end of its useful life just hits so hard. Its not the expense of a new machine ... but something else ..... So why so much attachment ?
Is this odd? , should I book time on the "couch".

I think it's because we use it to create something special. And for a lot of us it helps us keep our sanity. lol

washers , refigerators , mixers.

These just seem like WORK to me...
cleaning, cleaning, cleaning, cooking, cooking, and more cleaning..
Sewing is FUN.

Probably hormonal. I'll bet there's a dopamine or prolactin release.

Think about how emotional a craft quilting and sewing are. Sometimes it goes much farther than ART. I have upgraded sewing machines 3 times..and I keep them all because I'm attached. The good thing is my youngest is wanting to sew and I will pass on my Pfaff 6120 to her...It still sews like a dream after 15 years of Love and abuse. =)

I feel the same way. I'm actually dreading the day my beloved #1 plus dies because I know she can't be fixed. They aren't making parts for her any more. So having said that I tell her every day how much I love her and to hang in there with me!
Yeah I have a problem. Scoot over on that couch.

I don't feel that way. And I must add that I am sentimental in other regards.

I think it's because those other things are appliances which translates as work. A sewing machine is a tool of ultimate self expression. It's our phychiatrist, therapist and sometimes our best friend. There's a definate emotional attachment to them.
