Today's speaker at Mid Valley Quilt Guild in Salem OR was Zena Thorpe. Her web site - http://zenasquilts.com/pictures_of_quilts

Seeing those beautiful quilts in person, up close, was worth the entire year's dues. One of the quilts won Best of Show at Houston. All were amazing.

Tomorrow night I go to another guild's meeting and learn about local barn quilts. Such fun!

Wow! Those are awesome quilts. Do you know which one won Best In Show?

As I recall it was the middle picture on the left. The quilt is modeled after a ceiling in one of the Queen's buildings in Windsor Park. Here's another picture of that quilt, although it doesn't really do the quilt justice.

I am going to a quilt guild today. For the first time in years I have no obligations to keep me from joining. Hope they have programs as good as this one.

Have fun at your guild. I now belong to 3 - one very small, one medium, and one very large. The speaker yesterday was at the very large guild - over 300 members, a morning and an evening meeting, over 150 people at the morning meeting yesterday. You can get lost in the crowd, but it's a crowd of quilters, so that isn't so bad. The very small guild seldom has a speaker, and never a nationally known one, but we all know one another and can spend time looking at each show-and-tell quilt, asking questions, etc. Every guild has its own unique personality and reasons for joining.
