Was wondering if anyone uses fleece or flannel?
I am making tablerunners and was wondering if anyone has used fleece or flannel instead of batting in them, and if they were happy with the results. I buy batting when it is on sale. Thought maybe the fleece or flannel would work as well..............Thank you for your help ! Michele

I use craft fleece in runners, placemats and wall hangings and it works fine. With a 40% off coupon I buy several yards of white or ecru and it's much cheaper. You also might find it in the clearance bin, especially as we get closer to the holidays. I have laundered them with no problems too.

Where would I find the craft fleece? It's not in with the batting is it? Thanks for your help, Michele

I use fleece all the time...I find that the end result is a little more stable right from the start and also after washing. I buy mine at Joann's and with the 40% coupon it's really reasonable...I'm thinking about $3.00 a yard and it's 72 wide (I think). I don't use it in place of insulbrite or cotton in hotpad type things.

I love using flannel in table runners, table cloths and placemats. I think the batting makes them too thick and they don't lay flat or drape well. The flannel gives them just a little body. I just use Joanns snuggle flannel and it works great. I wash and dry it to shrink it first.

I BUY BATTING when it is 40% off also. They usually have it quite often. And if you get it on senior day you get that discount also.

Fusible fleece is always good, too. It's sold with the interfacings.

It's in the bolts of fabric. Usually toward the end of the quilting type bolts.

I have used fleece and flannel. Sometimes fleece can be thicker than I would like. I have also used wide poly felt ( cheaper than fleece). I use spray basting for all my battings and batting substitutes.
