in anticipation of the cotton shortage, farmers OVER planted cotton, which means by fall, the overabundance SHOULD translate into lower prices.YAHOOOOOOOO

WE SHALL SEE!!!

not if they can help it! Now higher prices will be blamed on fuel costs! We can't win!

now.... since when have u seen the price of something go DOWN???

doll-lady 04-16-2011 06:07 AM

i wouldn't bet on it.

just_the_scraps_m'am 04-16-2011 06:11 AM

i figure if nobody buys it at a high price, they'll have to lower it sooner or later--you can't eat it!!!

cjomomma 04-16-2011 06:12 AM

Unfortunately like sherriequilts said they will find another excuse to keep rising prices.

When wholesale prices go down again I imagine that there will be a lot of sales in the shops. After all, they love fabric as much as we all do and they will want to move out the old so they can order the new. Granted, fabric prices will probably never go down again but we could see a lot of discounted fabrics just because they want new stuff in their shops.

They'll just sell it overseas and transportation costs will override anything we purchase anymore. Until they get gas under control everything will be going up. Remember the gas hike a couple of years ago and food prices soared and they never came down and won't....they'll go up again with what gas is costing everyone now. They'll get what they want one way or another as there is always a buyer. Cotton is used for a multitude of things besides quilting cotton.

It's a crazy eights world, ya know?? Here in the south farmers have been paid a subsidy to NOT GROW a crop which was allotted by the government. I've seen fields stand fallow with the old crop because it had already been paid off to keep the prices up. Nothing amazes me except that I always get stuck with the eights!

They have been creating shortages for a long time. Then when the prices goes up they have enough. Prices never go down. grocery stores are a prime example. Prices never come down. The only reason gas prices came down was it was a election year. Now it has gone through the roof again.
