I have about 30 of those old wooden spools from yesteryear that I don't want, but can't bring myself to toss. Do you know if they have any value, or should I just get rid of them? Thanks.

Well since they don't make them anymore they have value to collectors. There are places that take them for supplies for teachers. You could donate them to a church with a preschool for craft projects or for Vacation Bible School. Someone on this board may buy them from you.

I'll take them if you don't want them. We use them at church for the kids crafts projects. For Mother's Day we made necklaces and they were the main 'bead'. They are able to paint them and add things to them as they want. We also use them for Christmas ornaments too. Just let me know how much postage will be and how you would like to be paid.

Perfect for winding embroidery floss onto or lengths of ribbon and trim.

You could make a spool bed!!
Over thirty yrs ago, I bought a dolls bed made just that way for my niece, complete with quilts and pillows. She loved it so and I know had it for years. Must ask if she still has it as she now has a little girl who just might be enjoying it!!!

I just told JRHBoxers/Jane that I'm sending them her way. Thanks for your suggestions!

You could maybe make ornaments out of them for gifts to sewing friends or string them with other beads for the Christmas tree :) Just a thought. I would keep them and make something with them.

Ahhhh,,, I read down and saw you gave them away for use at a church for kids crafts! :) A nice thing for sure.

I keep empty spools in a basket. They are fun for crafts as well. Lots of uses.

I love the wooden spools.... I have quite a collection in several jars/bowls in my sewing room.

They work great for the end of a straightened hanger for roasting marshmallow or hot dogs. The wooden spool is the handle.
