Would you buy this machine?

I have an opportunity to purchase a "gently used" Janome 11000 from my LQS for about $3200. The machine was originally purchased at this small shop and was a trade-in for the new 12000. It has lots of extra "goodies" that were purchased by the previous owner including 2 additional hoops, the extension table and several additional "feet". The shop owner will warranty the electronics for 5 years and all other hardware for 20 years. This shop sells a new 11000 for about $6000, but it would be without all the extras. I also have a Janome Memorycraft 200E that I can trade in for an additional $400 off the $3200. Would you make this purchase? I have looked at the new Berninas and really like the 550 but it doesn't have the embroidery option and I don't want to lose that. I also have a 12 year old Bernina 1008 for basic sewing that has been a workhorse for me and the trade-in on that at Bernina is almost nothing. I'd rather keep it as a portable machine for retreats and vacations.

Well, it sounds like a good deal to me, but to tell the truth, I have mostly Brother machines. I do have a Janome that is for LA only. With the shop owner warranty and all the extras, it really sounds good. Have you known this owner very long? I love my embroidery that I do with my Brother Innovis 1500D.

Maride 11-04-2011 04:19 PM

That is a good deal. I tryed this machine once and it was wonderful to play with.

meemersmom 11-04-2011 04:24 PM

That is an excellent deal for an excellent machine, especially with the balance of the warranties transferring to you. And, all those extras. If you're in a position to buy it, go for it. I don't think you'll regret your purchase.

grammy Dwynn 11-04-2011 04:26 PM

Sounds like a good deal.
Get it in WRITING!!!

Dolphyngyrl 11-04-2011 04:58 PM

yes you can get great gently used machines from dealers, since it is warrantied by them I would go for it

butter14562 11-04-2011 05:42 PM

Is it the upgraded or the Se? I have a mc 10001 and really like it.Sounds like a good deal. Check out Janome home site for all the details.Go to forum and ask questions or read the old posts.

quilterella 11-05-2011 02:05 AM

Take it and run...LOL. I sold one to my friend when I had my quilt shop five - six years ago and she loves it. I have used it a couple of times and loved it to. That is an awesome deal and if they give you some warranty, it is well worth it. All the extras are quite expensive if you have to buy them separately, so, this sounds like a really good deal. And yes, I would keep the smaller machine for retreats, vacations and a backup. Good Luck on your purchase.

Yarn or Fabric 11-05-2011 03:34 AM

That sounds like a really great deal. I am amazed and impressed with the dealer's warranty - 5 years?? Wow. That's awesome! I do like my Janomes. I now have a Brother 4500d only because of hoop size ;) Which is funny since I have only used the big hoop once so far (shhhh! Don't tell my husband!!)

Joset 11-05-2011 03:55 AM

i would grab that machine before some one else gets it . you will not be sorry. you will love it.

quiltinghere 11-05-2011 04:38 AM

Money wise it's sounds like a great idea BUT I have no knowledge of that machine. Good Luck!

nabobw 11-05-2011 05:16 AM

Yes I would buy it

Pieces2 11-05-2011 05:28 AM

Sounds like a great deal, with the price of new machines, used machines are a good way to get a good machine without the $$$. Especially since this machine has all the extras you want.
I've never had a Janome, but if you like it, go for it.

sash 11-05-2011 06:39 AM

Yep, yep, yep.

tnnslvr 11-05-2011 10:43 AM

Thanks to all for your input. You have pretty much confirmed what I already was thinking. Blessings to each of you :)

nurse bonnie 11-05-2011 10:53 AM

I wish I lived closer cuz I would get it myself. I have a Janome 7700 at home and when I go to my friends LQS I use her 11000. Here, they sell for $8,000. I had a chance about a year and a half ago to get a floor model from a LQS in Reno, NV for $4,300 and I am still kicking myself. I would totally jump on that deal!!! Good luck and I know you will never regret this buy. Bonnie

Painiacs 11-05-2011 10:56 AM

Does sound like a great deal!!

margee 11-05-2011 12:41 PM

I bought a new Janome 11000 Special Edition for $7500.00 on special 1and 1/2 yrs ago. It's a version 2. I so love this machine. It's changed how I feel about quilting. Be sure to get a copy of the warranty. Check to see if it's been upgreaded to the special edition and if it hasn't check the cost to do so. The shop and dealer i bought it from has an excellent reputation. Haven't had any problem with it but a small one that may have been my fault. Dealer took care of it right awqway for no charge. I'd check to see how much the MC00E goes for before i traded it. If u trust the dealer, go for it. You will love this machine

I've never had a Janome, but this sounds like a good deal if you like and trust the dealer. Test drive the machine and get the warranty in writing, at least written on the receipt. I bought my Bernina 440 used, with a one year dealer warranty, and it's been a dream to sew on.

eastermarie 11-05-2011 01:46 PM

That's an excellent buy. I have the 6600 and love sewing on it. I would jump on an opportunity like that to get the embroidery. Go and try it out with some of your own fabrics, but do it quickly while the offer is still good!

suern3 11-05-2011 02:27 PM

Sounds like a very good deal to me. I bought my Pfaff from my LQS at a good price because it had been used for classes and demonstrations. I love it and I think it's a great way to get a good machine at a good price.

Grannyh67 11-05-2011 03:06 PM

I would buy it!!! Sounds great and they are a wonderful machine.

Carron 11-05-2011 03:08 PM

Ask for a 30 day trial in your home and see if you really like it. Sounds like a good deal and if it is what you want, then go for itl.

kadie58 11-05-2011 03:17 PM

All I can say is Buy it!!! I have the Janome MC 11000. Excellent machine. Can't go wrong with it. 5 years ago they were $5300.00. And a warrenty!!!! yes go for it!!

Ruby the Quilter 11-05-2011 07:43 PM

I have a Janome 11000 and absolutely love it. What a great bargain.

Amythyst02 11-06-2011 06:15 AM

I have to agree with everyone here, run don't walk and get that machine before someone else does! That is a great deal with the warranty and all the extras!

celwood 11-06-2011 06:59 AM

Make sure that the warranties are from the manufacturer and not the LQS. There are many LQS' going out of business (unfortunately) and unless the warranties are from the manufacturer you will be paying additional monies.

hoppa 11-06-2011 07:05 AM

sounds like a good deal

mary19 11-06-2011 07:32 AM

Sounds like a good deal. I would NOT get the Bernina 550. I have one. I have a Bernina 1230 which is a truly wonderful machine. Bought the 550 and am disappointed in it. Vibrates when I sew. Clacks along. Stitches are ok, but not as nice as the 1230. Go for the Janome!

hudgoddess 11-06-2011 07:59 AM

I have a MC10001 and love it. I played with the 11000 and would love to trade up, but my money is going to another project right now. Buy it, take the classes to learn all of its features and enjoy every minute!
Make sure you don't just learn the basics and stop learning the machine. It has so many cool things! It takes a while, but I SO worth it!!

Here is a 550E ... If you stick with BERNINA all of your current accessories (feet and such) can be used.

franc36 11-06-2011 08:29 AM

I've never sewn on a Jenome; but that sure sounds like a great deal to me. I'd go for it. The warrenties sound fantastic. I like all the "extras" you'll get.

jaciqltznok 11-06-2011 08:44 AM

since you can get the warranty info in writing and have the shop handy to keep her going, I think it is great...trade in or not!

shrabar 11-06-2011 09:11 AM

What happens if the owner closes shop??? Did you check other shops? Did you call Janome they will talk to you I have a Janome & they are great people .

carolynjo 11-06-2011 01:06 PM

I would not trade in my oldest Bernina; keep it so you won't be without a machine should something happen to your new Janome. I would only hope that the 20 year warranty would be valid for that long; the shop might close, etc., so I would want to make sure I still have one useable machine. Otherwise, sounds like it might be a good deal.

omaluvs2quilt 11-07-2011 10:23 AM

My mom has one and it sews like a dream! I would jump on it as long as you get the warranty with it. She bought a floor model too (for a lot more than that), and it hasn't been a mistake. And... I'm lucky enough to get to play with it every now and then! The only thing I wish it had was the acufeed system like the Janome 6600, I use it almost exclusively.

SharonTheriault 11-07-2011 10:29 AM

Great machine! Great deal! Go for it!

kraftykimberly 11-07-2011 10:34 AM

Get it!!! I have 3 Janome models and love them all, I'm sure you will too.
