Quilt magazine has a really cute placemat in the new issue. It is a snowman's face in the center with sashing on the sides. I really want to do this one and it's really simple but can be out all winter not just Christmas.

I'm doing a hexagon style placemat for my mom she has a big round table in her kitchen so I found a pattern for hexagon shaped placemats I'm just starting them so I don't have a pic yet but the pattern is Quick and Easy Table Topper & Runner by Lehmann Quilting Pattern # 103 here is a link to the page http://www.lehmannquilting.com/tablerunners.html
This is a pattern from a class I took last week they are simple and quick to do up. I've done the center of mine in a green pattern with pine cones, flowers, and gold strands and the backing will be gold with white snow flakes. I'll try and take a pic tomorrow of the one I have done

Love your placemats. Would you please explain how you posted these. I have been trying to post a picture and with this new format it doesn't work. Don't know where to start. Thanks.

I made this pattern also. But I didn't do the applique. I got 4 placemats from one charm pack.

I use a pattern by Simplicity #5964 which also has other patterns, like table topper. I make the oval place mats. I prewash material, felt batting and then use spray to tack them together and this works really good.

Free patterns from Fabric Freedom for Christmas placemats and matching runner. The instructions are for their fabrics obviously, but you could use any combination of your own.

Lots of Christmas mats and runner free patterns here: http://fabricfreedom.co.uk/QuiltsAndProjects.html

Here's one:

I make placemats using two fabrics face together with batting on one top. I stitch around the placemat leaving an opening to turn. Turn right sides out but make sure you use a tool to get the corners out properly, then hand stitch the opening closed. Top stitch about 1/2 from the edge around the placemat, I then do some kind of quilting. Works great and is simple.

Maybe this can give you some ideas. For a placemat, you could just use the center 'wreath' part of the table runner or take the lower 3 holly leaves off of the table mat. I haven't tried to put a picture up in this new format, so hope it works.
