I went to Joann's today intending on getting fabric to make for my little girl that I'm expecting at the end of Dec.
They had a sale going on, $1 off per yard, and prices were $3.99 to $9.99 originally. So I started looking and all I was finding were $6, 7, even $8 a yard fabric! I remarked to hubby that thats just about as expensive as quality fabric from quilt shops (thinking it was like $8 a yard) so I got online and looked up the LQS near me and they are selling their stuff at like $10 a yard. I also found a print that I thought used to be maybe $3.99 a yard and the bolt was marked $5.99 a yard! |
I don't blame you at all. Congratulations on your coming arrival. :)

The quilt shops said they are going to have to start charging $12-$14/ yard, due to the increase in the price of cotton.
|
What's making the cost of cotton go up?
|
I agree, what has happened to our prices of good sales, and all of it. Even the LQS has gone up, $10 or more for most fabs, it really sucks. I am really bummed about it all. Guess this is one way I will just start using what I have and not buy any more until I do not have what I really need for sure......anyone else feel this way

As I have said before Aussie prices are $23.95 a metre for quality...but the other options are sometimes not worth taking.
|
It really is frustrating when the fabric was originally marked one price then they jack up the price because they can. It is much better to mark the new bolts than re-price the old ones.
|
I have really been hitting my stash lately for projects. Hopefully any new fabric I need can wait for a sale.
|
Congrats on your new one!

Thanks everyone!
I'm half tempted to drive to a Wal-Mart that has bolts of fabric, because I believe they are still cheaper than Joann's even though I know they have increased their prices too. |
