Has anyone every put a backing on a yo yo quilt? All that I have ever seen has just been the yo yo's sewn together and used as a pretty top over a sheet or bedspread. If you have put a backing on the yo yo quilt, did you tack it in the connecting yo yo seams or what? I can't imagine that it could be quilted....but there are some pretty creative folks on this board. I guess the edges could all be left as is, creating a scallop?????? Any suggestions or your experiences would be appreciated.

Hello,
No I havent ever put a backing on but I did find a nice pillow at the Goodwill and it was stitched to a backing... So I dont see why you couldnt, and infact thinking about it might help to keep stress of the yo yo's when stretched across the bed... ConnieF |
I have seen where the outsides of the yo yo's were button stitched to the backing. the yo yo's were just butted up to each other. I don't think they were tied in the centers, but I don't remember if they were tacked there or not.

Yes. I make a block with yo yo's say 16 or 25 and stitch them on to backing.

I just put 750 yoyo's to a muslin backing. I did a whip type stitch around all of them to the backing. I did not prewash the backing and when I washed the finished project the muslin shrank just enough that all the stitching was not seen. Years ago my mother attached them to a backing by flatening them and did a hand quilt stitch around the edge of each one of the yoyo's about 1/8th inch from the edge.

thanks so much for all your input.....so glad to know that it can and has been done. I bought 6- gallon size ziplock bags full of yo yos ready to use at a garage sale. I'm ready to do something with them, as this is my year to get UFO's done....however, I'll need more than one year.
