Are YOU making Christmas gifts this year?!

:o I was wondering what gifts are being made by you! I can't think of anything unique. I did find on UTube a video of a 10 minute table runner. Very pretty and easy. I thought about pot holders or mug rugs...Oh I don't know! Any suggestions?! Post pics if you will! I need help!

Merry Christmas and Thank you SO much!

I am making grocery totes for my inlaws. They're fast and easy and they'll love them.

Momma_K 12-06-2012 06:21 PM

Queen Thats a great idea! My sister works in a major grocery store and she's always using the totes. Those plastic bags are so undependable! Thanks!

janceejan 12-06-2012 06:57 PM

Microwave bowls, potholders, tissue covers for stockings, runners for DD, quilt for my DD and son in law, quilt for husband, and folded fabric ornaments. May do some new stockings this weekend.....forgot about the grocery totes, even bought some ripstop nylon for them.

I made a few quick table runners for relatives and knitted wash clothes and scarves to give to the neighbor ladies.
My husband loves my knitted wool scarves and my hands are going a hundred miles an hour to get one done.
He sure will be surpried. Happy Holidays!

Elisabrat 12-06-2012 07:13 PM

Wintersewer 12-06-2012 07:30 PM

I was going to make some table runners and feed bag bags, but I was called for Grand Jury duty and I can be called in any day. So far it's 4 days this week that I have to drive into the city. We are on until January 2nd. I never know until the night before at 5 o'clock. I figured that since today we were sent home after 45 minutes, that tomorrow would be free....NOPE!!! We are supposed to report at 9:30. Wednesday we had a 2 1/2 hour lunch!! I really wonder if anyone there knows what they are doing! This is spoiling my Christmas season. :-(((

Leolady 12-06-2012 07:31 PM

I am making aprons and potholders for a local church's kitchen. Not doing anything for any of my many relatives though.

I'm making a few of these bread basket liners. Everyone I've made them for loves them. I'm making some little pot holders called pot pinchers & I made a "snap" purse for my friend- the kind you use the metal tape measure for the snap part. Nothing too involved! Don't want the stress of a big project !

Pat625 12-06-2012 07:51 PM

Been working on my 4th table runner/hot pad set ...2 more to go/ stuffed rabbit dolls, cup cozy's, ornaments, crocheet penguin doll, and of course quilts....made 7 stocking for a group home for orphans today also....Once I finsih the table runner sets I will be done and relax and bake until Christmas..Hoping all will be done by this weekend!!

BellaBoo 12-06-2012 08:56 PM

Mostly I made out the check to buy the presents. :D I did make two rag quilts for my two sis inlaws and a bed size quilt for my DGD. DD wants three stockings made from an old quilt she bought at a yard sale. I haven't made those yet. She's too picky about what she isn't making. LOL.

QuiltingCrazie 12-06-2012 08:59 PM

I'm making my daughter a rag quilt, my DH a quilt and that's about it. I made everyone stockings last year.

slicksister 12-06-2012 09:52 PM

3 quilts, 8 mug rug/coasters, a stuffed doll and several pillowcases.

Dec. 7 and you're looking for Christmas projects?????? You must be a lot faster than me.

IN PROGRESS are 4 casserole carriers, about a half dozen shopping bags, 3 more dresses for little girls, a half dozen mug rugs, & my sweatshirt jacket

the tissue cover count is up to 263 and all but a dozen or so out.

I have a very limited gift list. The grands and foster children are getting quilts. For family and friends, gifts are generally homemade. Except for one, all were done by August.
We have given to the local food drive. DH had the great idea to sponsor a "clean and struggling" family to a meal at a local restaurant this year, where the owner will make a fuss over the kids. We are not wealthy by any means, but we had times in the past living on the very edge, so we feel this is important. As a teen, DH put in long hours working for a landlord to keep a roof over the family's head when HIS family could not pay the rent. In our shaky economic times, these gifts are much more important than the table runners and placemats to kin.

QuiltingHaven 12-07-2012 03:50 AM

I made 3 quilts over the summer for my three grandchildren and they are ready to send to Wichita next week when Office Depot has 25% of on UPS shipping. I made 7 Christmas runners for my best "non-sewing" friends and hand-quilted them riding to Wisconsin, Kansas, and North Carolina over the summer. Now, today, I am going to try 3 table runners using a version of the 10 minute table runner. This will be for several friends that might show up with a gift. Last year I made 20 of the quilted Christmas Ball ornaments and it took me about 2 1/2 hours on each one of those. I think this runner will be fun - going to put in batting and machine quilt them.

SandiGrove 12-07-2012 03:54 AM

Murphy1 12-07-2012 08:06 AM

We certainly are a busy group. I made two I Spy quilts for grandsons, several table toppers for various people and some cute pillowcases with snowmen and two minkee pillowcases. Oh and I made a gorgeous Christmas Tree Skirt that I just love and will give to my daughter. I am also embroidering a piece to make into a pillow for my sis. I hope I get everything done soon because baking is next on the llst.

LoupEsprit 12-07-2012 08:13 AM

Two baby quilts for the newborn Niece and Nephew (8 months and 3 months, respectively) a matchbox car wallet for my son, a twin size quilt with a large angel panel in the center for my great-grandma (in the works) and 8 fleur-de-lis mug rugs for my son's preschool teachers (that's the school logo) were started last night.

If I have time, I might make a few microwave bowls for some co-workers, or the fabric bowls from CarolinePaj filled with homemade cookies. :)

May I ask what are Crayon Rollups?! Sounds like something my granddaughters would like.

I LOVE all of these ideas, I did find this morning a pattern of paper piecing a Coffee Pot and Coffee cups, I thought of making these into 6.1/4 inch squares for either mug rugs or pot holders. Either way I think they'll be easy enough but want to try some of these other ideas as well. Thanks to ALL!!

You and your family are truely gifted from the heart. I so admire your will to give as you do. I've been on edge at times myself, still there sometimes but I like you believe in giving from the heart to help another is the best gift one could give. You are a blessing in yourself.

I'll admit, I 'borrow' ideas from etsy from time-to-time (for my personal use). I got the idea for a car wallet for my son from there. I didn't want to pay $10+ for one, so I looked at a few pics, got some fabric I thought he'd like, and made it myself (with a lot left over).

Everybody on my list is getting oven mitts and hot mats for the table.

Amythyst02 12-08-2012 04:12 AM

Table runners, eye glass cases, lap quilt.

Dollyo 12-08-2012 04:14 AM

I've made 2 Spicy Spiral table toppers, 2 of the MSQC tree table runners, a sampler table runner, a large lap "thinking outside the block" quilt & matching pillowcase for my DGS, 4 fabric bowls (only 6 more to go), 12 comfort wraps for an assisted living facility (with much help from my cousin, niece, & most especially, my DSIL). I did the quilting on all 12, DSIL did all of the binding. I still want to make a Swirling Stars - Card Trick table topper & also, a tree skirt out of the same pattern for the living room.
