I was heading to work yesterday and drove by a garage sale, I stopped and didn't see anything, on my way out there sat a red tote of fabric.
$20.00 got the following:
a green cutting mat 11x17 approx
applique press mat
some batting-big enough for a couple of wall hanging
3 yards of muslin
4 yards of white cotton material
scraps of cotton material
3 yards of beautiful soft green print cotton material
some misc fabric-non cotton
a large supply of fusible web
I was in a hurry to get to work, so I grabbed it and headed out.
How did I do? oh, and I got the tote

Oh my what a find from a yard sale, I sniff never get things like that at yard sales. What is wrong with the people here don't they have good taste or what.

Sounds like a great find to me. Last time I saw any fabric at a garage sale it was about 5 years ago but I still keep looking for a big find like yours. In fact, the heck with gardening this morning, it's Saturday and I'm going out to garage sales, the garden will still be here when I get back, LOL! May in Jersey

OK, so if you don't have garage or yard sales in Ireland, how do you get rid of extra stuff???? :D

pocoellie 07-11-2009 06:48 PM

I think you got a great deal!!

deedum 07-11-2009 07:06 PM

kwhite 07-11-2009 07:11 PM

Really great job. I went to a bunch today too but didn't do anywhere as near as well as you.

Yarn or Fabric 07-12-2009 03:41 AM

I'd say you did quite well!
I don't get out to yard sales often. I'd like to go to more of them but I don't like going by myself.... I'm going to have to find someone to go yard saling with... a friend of mine's husband goes so I went with him one day but he is miserable at it - he lingers at each stop as if he firmly believes there is a real Hope diamond hiding on each table that he can buy for a quarter.... yeah... it was a bad day of yard saling. He is just too slow. Missing the deals man the longer we stay at this driveway with only infant items in it... no hope diamond here... move on already!!

You did really good!

I did find a Bernina 65 was it? at a yard sale for a friend of mine (wife of same bad yard saler...) She ended up paying $35 for it...
The woman bought it the year before and never used it....

deedum 07-12-2009 03:53 AM

Hey Deb.
I generally go to work a few minutes early on Friday, then if there is a garage sale in the area that I drive by, I stop. I don't spend much time doing this, secretly, I am hoping to find a featherweight or a 301. Talk about trying to find a diamond. Although, it could happen, one never knows! Yep, my hubby is no good at them either! I am a scouter, I go in and scout things out, and move on. Having to be to work shortly certainly keeps me from lingering, if I find material or such, it still is a good day! Get's my Friday morning off to a good start! :D

Bevanger 07-12-2009 05:14 AM

sounds like you did good. i wish we had more yard sales here. i hardly see any :(

littlehud 07-13-2009 08:10 AM

What a find. Great job.

zkosh 07-13-2009 08:21 AM

Great find! I am getting inspired to check out garage sales again. It's really hot here right now and we are going out of town anyway, so I guess it will wait until I get back. My only problem is I often come home with treasures I don't need just because it seems like a bargain!!

amma 07-13-2009 10:31 AM

You scored!!! :D :D :D

vickig626 07-16-2009 05:36 AM

It was definitely your day to stop. Great Find.

hapytlk 07-16-2009 07:25 AM

You did amazing, but hopefully you didn't leave the mat in the car. Heat will warp it so fast and they never heal! What a find! Good for you.

Ardis 07-16-2009 03:07 PM

That is great! I'm going to have to start going to yard sales. Where do you live?

rosie the ripper 07-16-2009 03:18 PM

YOU GOTTA COME TO THE GOOD OLD U.S. of A

deedum 07-16-2009 05:11 PM

I didn't but nice to know. A friend of mine did leave her's in the car and it is all warped, they are trying to firgue out a way to unwarped it, if you will.

deedum 07-16-2009 05:15 PM

Illinois, and with everything going on in this state, a tax free item at a garage sale is a good thing! :!: Matter of fact, my neighbor was just telling me a few minutes ago, that her friend is having a sale tomorrow and have loads of bolts of fabric and such. Her friends who has sewn for years are bringing their stuff. First thing on my agenda, then of course, get to work

pegquilter8 07-18-2009 05:17 AM

Gosh, that was great. Hope it wasn't a clean out from some quilter who DID NOT finish all her projects.
I put all my stuff together in bags with directions and, if a gift to whom. When the "sisters" afrive After, they will know what to do. I really dn't want my stash to end up on the sidewalk.

marytp 07-18-2009 06:28 AM

Very Nice Tote!

deedum 07-18-2009 06:34 AM

Thanks, I haven't peeked in it lately, but nice to know I am building stash!

OK, marsye. You got yourself in trouble the last time you bought something at a yard sale. Remember the Sues?

Well Deedum, you remind me of a dear friend who once said, "Even if I don't ever use it, it's a good deal" I think you made a good deal.
