:Hi, this is Bobbie again. And it works!! thanx, Sue!

Does anyone have instructions for the rail fence? My sister wants to make one, and I have a book at home in IL, but it's obviously not here, and I wanted to show her how to get started, but the correct way, not guessing what's in my book (at home!
If anyone has directions, I think it's a simple one, could one of you wonderful ladies (or men) give me a heads up? She is a very BEGINNER!!
Thanx again for the binding info, that was a blessing!

I made one years ago with 2 colors. I am not sure if that what it was called. Cut 2pieces of fabric one 2 1/2 inches wide by width of fabric and the other 4 1/2 inches wide by width of fabric. Sew strips together then cut thme in 61/2 pieces after they are sewn the sew the blocks together alternating the direction. This is what I did and it came ou pretty good. Just mesure the bed width and decide how wide it has to be and divide the width of the block. I hope this helps you. Good luck. :)

Thanks for being so prompt! Wow! My sister has 6 colors she wants to use for the rail fence. How do you put it together? The two sites did not have info on how to put together. Thanks a bunch!

If you are using multiple colors, just cut the strips narrower . Its basically however you want it to look. Sew the strips together, then cut them into blocks and alternate the direction of each block and sew the blocks into strips or rows after that. It should give you a zig zaggy look afte 2 or 3 rows Then just make as many rows as you want all following the same method. I made only one and I used a directional print. Oh boy was I pulling my hair out by the time I got done. But the recipient really was pleased with it so I guess thats all that matters.
Hope I haven't confused you!

When I did a rail fence quilt (Queen size), I used 3 fabrics (I believe it was a yard each). I think it looks really nice when there is an odd number of fabrics. I cut 2 1/2 inch strips across the width of the fabrics.

I sewed the 3 strips together. I repeated that sequence until all strips were done. I believe the key is whatever the height measurement is of the 3 strips that are together, cut that same measurement for the width. This way you have a square.

Once you have all those squares, playaround with the arrangement by laying the blocks on the floor or a big table. Once I liked the way it looked, I starting assembly line sewing. It goes really fast doing it like that.

Once I finished the quilt top, there were enough squares left to make to pillows!

I hope this helps.

This one looks like shallow ocean with lots of seaweed just below the surface. I really like it :)

Hi, if either my sister or I used a directional pattern, being novices, we would, GUARANTEE, pull our hair out. No, she just wants the simple way, but with 6 colors, that's all. Not too much, eh? And she's asking ME?
Thanks for caring, tho.
Bobbie :)

Hi, I like the way someone else described your quilt, ocean floor, shallow, etc. It turned out beautiful. I hope my sister's turns out that pretty! Oh, are you a novice or a seasoned quilter?
God's blessings,
Bobbie
