Default QOV - How would this look as a scrappy?

I want to make a Quilt of Valor this summer and came up with this coloring in EQ7. But I'd like to make it a scrappy to use up some of the fabrics I already have. I just can't decide if it will look good like that or odd.

That's a beautiful design! When you say scrappy, are you still going to do it red, white and blue? just a lot of different ones? I think it will look just fine. I would just try to keep the values similar so that beautiful pattern shows up like your drawing.

Would love to see this one when it's done - I coordinate our local QOV group and always enjoy seeing what other people are doing for this worth cause.

as long as you keep the values true to your drawing, I think it would be very nice.

I love the stripes in the background and the stars look great! All the pieces in the stars might be difficult depending on your skill level. For myself, I think I would split the stars down the centers and do a contrasting colour over the stripe but no pieces in the star diamond shapes.

The plan is to keep the values the same so that the coloring remains true. I'll be paper piecing it, using this pattern:

Obtuse Star

It will probably take me a year to do, lol but it will be worth it.

I love scrappy quilts and think this one would be fantastic as a scrappy. Just be sure you can actually sew what you have drawn!

Your design looks wonderful, it'll make a great quilt!!!

My question is......are you planning to send this quilt to the Quilts Of Valor Foundation for distribution? Have you visited their web site for their requirements and rules? Are you making a quilt for a particular soldier that you know and are planning to give it to them yourself?

I ask because many of us who want to honor our military service personnel with a quilt do not realize that the QOV is an actual organization with its own parameters for the quilts connected with it. And sometimes we feel that those parameters are a bit restrictive, even unnecessary, political, and "big business.

It would probably behoove us all to indicate that we are making "honor" quilts for these men and women (and even service dogs, as in my case this week!) and drop the term "valor" (which the aforementioned organization is claiming must only be used by them and their participants.) I don't know how one can "trademark" or claim a word in regular use for their own agenda, but there it is.

I've taken to calling the military quilts I make as "patriot quilts" that give "a hug from home". You're welcome to use that if you want, I'm not so impressed with what I do that I'd be offended if someone copied the idea.

Just for clarification.....
