I did a large floral applique wall quilt using some beading on the flowers. Living overseas, I didn't have access to much in the way of beads, so I used what I could get, telling myself I would do more when I returned to the US. Well, I'm back, and the quilt is on my wall WITHOUT adding more, but I keep telling myself I will someday. I also made a batch of Xmas ornaments this year with buttons and beads. I am only just getting into it, but I would love to learn embroidery and be able to do extensive embellishing with misc bits and pieces I can scrounge up! I always drool when I see other's masterpieces with embellishments!

I did a 12 Days of Christmas applique quilt last year and embellished it with a bunch of things. Chrystals, buttons, raffia, lace, ribbon and the like. I just thought about each block and what would enhance each and went for it. I don't think the quilt will ever see the inside of a washing machine, so I wasn't too shy about how I dolled it up. Had it been one that was used as a bed quilt of for a child, I would have been more careful about what went on it

I'm making pendants using my fabric scraps. I feel like I can't throw anything away so I came up with this idea. Here are just a few of what I've done.

wow, my first embellished quilt started as my "free" quilt, made from scraps. Went to bed thinking it was done--woke saying: silk ribbon embroidery. then, buttons! well...the free quilt ran almost $75 in embellishments. After all, I HAD to buy those antique buttons in a set cause there was one that was perfect! the rest is history. I discovered swarovski crystals, iron on diamond shapes, donut shapes, etc from gold, brass, silver. And a bead for every purpose/need. I am really lucky as I live in NYC right near to the garment district and all the button and notion stores.

The pollen for the poinsettias are embroidered French knots & the holly berries are small cranberry buttons.
