Question about applique...

Dear Shembo,
Thank you for the nice comments about my snowflakes - I was working on them when my husband left me for a much younger woman. When I finished the quilt, complete with icicles on the borders, I called it 'Cold Comfort'! I'm fine now, nine years later, but it was devastating at the time. I tried gaigai's advice about adding my location, and this time it worked, but I had done the same thing twice before and it hadn't worked - I think technology has a mind of its own sometimes.

Totally agree about technology having a mind of its own! :?
"Cold comfort" is a great name for the circumstances. I left my husband tons of yers ago when he wouldn't stay married! I was, but he wasn't, I was just where he had his clothes! Grrrr. Never saw him again after the day I left! No kids, no connection! My life is good now!

I, too, love applique. I work from the back forward. Once the larger flower piece is stitched into place, I go to the back side and clip away the extra fabric under the flower. If there are subsequent layers, I continue to clip away until the last piece is stitched = two layers. I do not cut away under leaves as when they are appliqued, they add just one more layer.
WHY? do you hand quilt? You will be glad that the extra layers have been removed.
