What do you do when your thread breaks or the bobbin runs out half way through a seam? Do you unpick the seam and sew it over, or do you just start where the thread broke or bobbin ran out? I never learned to sew and have taught myself pretty much everything I know with the help of you wonderful people on the board. So, I am wondering what is the correct way to handle this problem?

I usually just go back to before the problem and continue the seam.

I'll sew over the end of where the thread broke or the bobbin ran out by half an inch or so.

For piecing, I just restart about an inch before the break and sew as usual. It will never show from the front.

Yep. That is what I do as well.

Same here, restart just a ways back before the break/runout. That is only to lock the threads so the stiches don't come unraveled.

I too go back about 1" and stitch over the previous stitching line. If it is a line of stitching that will be subcut, I will backstitch a couple of stitches as well to be sure it is stable if I cut there.
