Ok, I made placemats and would like to make matching napkins. I did a search on the board and like the double sided ones where you sew right sides together and then turn. But my question is, the two fabrics will be loose in the middle, not sewn together in the middle, won't that be weird?

I don't think so... if you stitch around the outside after you turn it, that should keep it from shifting so much. I have seen them done this way and they look really nice.

Do you have a serger? You can do a rolled hem on a serger that looks just like the store bought napkins.

actually they will be weird..especially if you do not make sure BOTH fabrics are #1- prewashed so they are shrunk first, and #2- going the same direction as far as bias is concerned...

you could always use a tiny strip of fusible close the edge to help keep them together...

Wouldn't ironing and starching be a pest with double-sided ones? Also, you wouldn't be able to do any decorative folding. Maybe you could just make two sets, one of each fabric. If hemming is the problem, you could maybe do a decorative stitch to make it look a bit more special.

Not weird, nice. Top stitch very close to the edge after turning and pressing. If they want to balloon add another row of top stitching further in. Alternatively, top stitch from corner to corner.

If you could find commercial napkins in a coordinating color you could applique a motif from your placemat in a corner or bind the ready mades in material matching the mats. That would be my choice.

I would topstitch after turning, then do a second topstitch row about 1/4 to 1/2 inch inside the first top stitch, maybe in a decorative stitch you could also add somewhere on the placements.

I have made reversible placemats & just made 2 sets of napkins - 1 to match each side. I did a narrow rolled hem to finish the napkins.
