Are postage stamp quilts ONLY square pieces or are they tiny blocks such as a 3 inch log cabin block made from 1/2" pieces?

I always thought they are just individual peices, not block.

a log cabin block- is a log cabin block- regardless of size-
a postage stamp quilt is made up of 1" or less squares- log cabin blocks may have a 1" square in the middle- but then the rest is strips which grow with the block- a postage stamp quilt does not contain strips- it is simply little (postage stamp sized) squares.

They can be any size block. Usually people make them in different small sizes such as 1", 1&1/2", 2", 2&1/2" or 3".
Postage stamp is about the size of 1". I have 2 different quilt tops that I started and one is 2" and the other is 2&1/2" Maybe I will get them done one of these days.

Traditionally all single solid blocks, but it would be awesome to see one done in mini log cabins too :D:D:D

You can string piece them, as seen here. Not sure if this is what you're asking...

Yea, string piece, that's how I would do it. Can you imagine sewing all those little 1" pieces together individually.

I would definitely do strips and then cut them into blocks then sew the blocks together.

Thanks for this thread. I made a "postage stamp" quilt this summer and did not know that it had a name. I have been on a journey to use up scraps and so far have four tops in one stage of completion or another. I still have a grocery bag full of scraps. It seems the more I make, the more the scraps multiply. I may return to postage stamp to get the scraps out of my life.
