Hi everyone,

I have another question for you. I can't find navy/white pinstripe fabric for the nursery curtains, so I have decided to make it. What width should I make the white stripes and the navy stripes? We are doing the nursery in NY Yankees--so think about their uniforms. That's what I want the curtains to look like.

I was thinking a 4" white stripe and a 1 1/2" navy stripe? maybe? I want these to look right! Maybe a 6" white stripe instead?

I have a die cut machine to cut the strips, so this doesn't sound as involved as it would be if I were rotary cutting. I just want to get it right.

Please help! thanks for any advice!

Well this is just a suggestion.

Find a picture of a jersey online. Say maybe a collectable so it is framed or mounted. Measure the blue and white stripes on the picture and then use the same ratio to figure out the width of the stipes you need.

The proportion to me look about six to one. You might want to draw it out on graph paper until it looks right.

On the other hand, you could always go with a Red Sox theme. :D (Can you tell I'm not a Yankees fan?)

Have you checked over where they have shirting fabrics. They sometimes have fabrics with thin stripes like Yankee pinstripes would be. My mom made curtains for our nursery out of sheets.

thanks everyone!

My husband has a Jersey as home, but those pinstripes aren't even at 1/8" thick!

Sorry-Red Sox is NOT an option...

I will look into sheets--what a great idea. the MLB website would probably have something. why work harder, when you can work smarter???

Have you gone to Home Depot and look at wallpaper books. There is one for sports or MLB. Sometimes They have coordinating fabrics that can be ordered.

Or Look for a different fabric like a baseball print.(check equilter)

Or how about painting pinstripes with permanent marker and a ruller.

No way would I piece that, Not even for a grandchild. I have my limits.

I hate to paint!! I would rather sew some straight "pin stripe" seams. In fact, my Mom is painting the nursery walls and furniture for me. I probably shouldn't be around the fumes either, but I hear they make low-odor paint now. Great suggestion though!

YIKES!!! That would be too wide, I think!! My DH has been looking for pinstripe fabric, too, and recently saw some, but wrong color. Don't give up...keep looking.
