    A Question About Quilt Size

Making a quilt for my granddaughter who is getting married in September. Would like your experienced input regarding size. At first, I thought it should be a King. However, I am now thinking it should be an over-sized queen instead. Wondering what size members are making for wedding gifts. Thank you for your input.

Do you know what size their bed will be and if they plan to use it on the bed?

I usually make oversized throws for couch/TV/nap time. Seems most useful, and I usually don't know bed size, mattress depth or decorating colors of bedroom.

Unless it's going to be a surprise, I'd ask the bride.

I would definitely ask your DGD what she wants and the size. Chances are she can hardly wait to have a wedding quilt and wants it to match the bedroom she has planned.

Thank you for your input. I had hoped it would be a surprise but better rethink that Idea.

If you get her input on colors, style, and size then the quilt won't be a surprise, but she doesn't have to know the pattern or the specific fabrics, so that part would still be a surprise.

what pattern are you thinking of making? a friend of mine did a steps to the altar quilt with maybe inch finished blocks- tons of little bitty pieces all in creams and beiges...came out beautiful(though I was thinking all purples or blues for 'my'neutrals LOL!) she long-armed quilted it with a bunch of words for them to find (she made a list of the words she quilted in like 'love', 'faithful' 'forever')

a surprise is awesome but I'd rather have a quilt that fits

It is the "Bud and Bloom" quilt from Connecting Threads. I bought 2 kits in order to make it bigger.

I always find out the size of the bed. Most of the time I make a queen or a throw size.
