I've tied quilts off and on for years. I always tie it 3 times and leave about an inch of the tie when I cut it. They have held up under years of use.

I used to tie quilts with an individual knot and tails, but I learned another more efficient way to tie quilts using the "international stitch." Here are a couple of links to check out this stitch. It does not come out, ever.

I have tied a quilt with yarn and then used Fray Block on the ends, seems to work.

I tried to post a video from Connecting Threads but couldn't get it to link. Anyway, it showed how I've helped tie quilts. You loop twice into the quilt then do a square or surgeon's knot whichever works for you. We used embroidery floss, perle cotton. She clipped it a fingers loop, circumference, from the knot.

I have a friend who goes through the quilt twice before she ties it and has no problems but that seems a bother to me. Have fun, my kids love tied quilts, reminds them of the quilts grandma made for them.
It's what I remember also! Ours were for warmth, not looks LOL. And the fabric used was truly left over from making clothing and had everything in it.

I hate when websites want you to sign up for their emails when you aren't even sure you want ot see what they have to say. I just move on, too many out there!!

This boy scout mom uses a square knot. They don't come undone.

You know, you don't HAVE to sign up for their emails just to watch the video. Just one little click on the X in the corner of the pop-up window makes it go away.
