Saw the sale JoAnns is having on flannel today, but most if not all the flannel says to wash in cool water and line dry??? Has any one used this on baby quilts they plan to wash and dry in a machine?

I don't know if it's the same flannel...but I bought some at Joanns and made a baby quilt. I pre-washed it and washed it afterwards in the washing machine and dried in the dryer. It came out fine!

the sale stuff that JoAnns will be selling, is OK....just OK. if you are using it for a baby quilt that will used and washed a lot, it ''should'' hold up pretty well.....if you are planning on passing it down through the generations, doubt that it would live that long...vbg!! I've used this fabric on hundreds of small kids quilts and it will make up nicely...BE SURE you wash, dry and iron BEFORE you cut it.....buy extra amounts as it will shrink!!
Enjoy the crowds and enjoy the fabric!!

Thanks. Anm going to avoid the crowds as they have it for $1.79 online today only and you can put EAD331 in for free shipping. It is a 60 mile trip to nearest JoAnns...so the online deal is great. Yes, I plan to use this flannel for the Quilt for kids project.

I would wash and machine dry all of the flannel atleast once, if not twice before using it
I think they say line dry, because of the fact that it shrinks a lot  but preshrinking takes care of that :D:D:D

I agree with the others. You can use this, just pre-wash and dry in the dryer.

Pre-shrink it and it should not be a problem later.

If it shrinks a lot after the first wash, I will wash it again. And dry it in the dryer.

:)

I have made 4 blankets for my baby out of the flannel from Joann's and they have held up well. I am going to get more.

Another thing....keep your pattern simple and use a good 1/4 to 1/2 inch seam. Flannel is just funny but warm and wonderful to snuggle under.

By simple, I mean 3-4 inch squares...nothing smaller because of the larger seam allowence. Just a nice patwork with alternating blocks of solid colors.

As someone who has been quilting since I was about 4 years old....at my Grandmothers knee of course...but I find those simple old style patterns the best!! The new art style quilts leave me a bit cold......can not imangine snuggling under all those crystals and beads!!
