Hi all,
do I need to buy the book for the one block wonder to do the pattern?
it appears to be a hexagon--can I just cut 6 pieces of the same design from the same fabric, or is it more involved.? I'd like to do this pattern from some not so pretty any more fabric I bought & it has been sitting around.

I'm currently working on a OBW and the most important thing I've learned so far from the book is how to line up the six pieces of fabric with the print exactly the same on all six, and how to cut out the triangles.

Also, when you are putting the hexagons together, you only combine three and three, not the whole six. When you put the hexagons in a pattern on your design wall, then you can sew them together in a straight column by sewing the half hexagons together. I know, clear as mud. But that's what I learned from the book.

Actually, it's the pictures on this site that have inspired me to make one--I just don't want to buy another book right now.
I've been forbidden to buy another book or magazine until after christmas. The nerve of some husbands.!

There are a series of classes that cutebuns taught in the Main section of the board.
Each class is rather lengthy, but if you read through each one, many questions/answers that will help you to understand each portion of the technique.

There is a class for:
General Discussion
picking out the fabric
repeats/cutting
sewing the half hex's
laying out the half hex's

I made one using Cutie's tute and asked some specific questions of another friend. Its doable...of course, the book is a huge help..but you can wing it with a little help. You can always get the book after because you'll fall in love with the technique and you'll want to add the cubes, etc...:lol:

Here is a link to someone else asking the same question about the tutorial on this board and links to the different sections. She explains about cutting, then piecing and then layout. They are all in separate discussions under the title Tiptoe Through the Hexagons- or something close to that. So you could search that title too.
