I've noticed that a few members are making the Postage Stamp quilt. Since squares are 1 1/2" and no 2 squares are the same, what is your system to make certain you don't have duplicate squares?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I just joined the Postage Stamp block swap on this board. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-65355-1.htm
I think it will be great.
Up until now my system relies on careful scrutiny and considering my current mental abilities that system is doomed LOL.
I'm already exchanging blocks with some members, and I make sure I only cut enough to go around and one for me in the correct size.
Are you getting the postage stamp bug? It's going to take awhile, but I can't imagine a more interesting and memory filled quilt to make!

The thought of a Postage Stamp quilt sounds interesting but sooooo overwhelming! I was just curious as to how you avoided duplicates. I don't think I'll be making one anytime soon, but who knows, I could get the bug tomorrow!

YOu know, I remember my grandmother making a postage stamp quilt when I was little. She was always working on it. I think that she cut squares of all the fabrics she had at the time... until she could make a bigger pieced square, and then started collecting again. I remember her showing me several completed bigger squares that were in a cedar chest and telling me which fabrics belonged to my mother or aunt when they were little.
I dont know how you would do it in this day...with all the people you can exchange with. I am sure they had to exchange in years gone by too..... hmmmm......

I just joined a couple of days ago and am intriqued----wowed!!! at all of the exchanges available. I'm on a local quilt guild board and will pass this site along. what fun :) just what we need another project of course... I have a question about the postage stamps. Are we to cut the pieces 1 1/2" squares or are these finished size? I see you mention both 2" and 1 1/2?? now I'm confused :

Twisted Quilter, you got the bug, but have you started your postage stamp quilt yet? Can you post the work in progress if you have? Thanks.

No, I haven't started yet. I just received my package from my first 1.5" swap, so it will be a looooong time before I have enough. Right now I'm in the middle of cutting for my current project (Buckeye Beauty). I really don't like having more than one project going at a time.

Go to the Picture section and enter Postage Stamp Quilts and you'll see quite a few options for making this quilt.

If you're interested in joining a swap, Missi has another one going right now. Pieces aren't due until March! Here's the link just in case you're interested.

Hope you get done with Buckeye Beauty soon.

And thanks for the link--I've already mailed in my 20 packs of 50 squares each.

I'd still like to see your squares when you get around to it. :)
