I would get the online one. Yrs ago DH got a Janome 6500 from a dealer and we did not get support to speak off eventhough it was supposed to be there. We do not pay a different rate for having the machine looked at but I think it has gone in 2 twice over 10 yrs and then DH ended up resolving the issue once. there is also an online Yahoo support group for the Janome 6600. Maybe they can give you more insight.

I own 6600 and 7700 machines, both of them are fantastic. What I try to do if possible, is to buy my machines from the dealer, but at a quilt show. They often have show specials, either making it less expensive, or giving you extra goodies to go along with it, and you still get the benefit of the free classes or other perks. My 6600 came with a table, traveling cart, and a whole bunch of thread from Robinson-Anton in a fancy case (bought at a quilt show). I bought my 7700 directly from my dealer and got a discount because it was a used floor model. My 7700 works perfectly well, but sometimes I do wish I had bought it at the show, just to get the extras and also have it brand new without any dings or scratches. Good luck!

I was very blessed to have gotten a used one from ,my local dealer. It came services, with all the feet & extension table, and a year warranty all for $1,000, the lady traded it in for a bigger machine. I LOVE mine, it's easy to use ANYTHING you need to k ow about the 6600 you can find on the Internet / YouTube. I'd but the cheaper (if it comes from a reputable seller ) and go from there.

Your gonna love it!

I purchased my 6600 about 2 years ago from a dealer - but it was right after the State Fair and they still were giving the same discounts - I love mine and did get the table that it sits down in. I paid a little less than $1500 for the machine and table and with some perks. I didn't take the classes offered - but I am going this next week to one of the classes because I was talking with a sales lady the other day and she showed me something my machine did that I didn't know it did - so I immediately signed up for her class.

Whatever you decide, I'm sure you will love your 6600!

Now that I am ready to buy the 6600, I can not find it anywhere online!!! Ugh!! Last week when I was doing research on it, I saw it at several places, Amazon included, for $1299. I guess I will end up buying from the dealer if I can't find it online by Tuesday.

The 6600 is a great machine. If you buy it on line, you have no one to help you down the line with service or anything else. Only you can decide if the difference in price is worth it. Why not approach your local dealer to see if you can work out a compromise? Local dealers actually care whether you buy from them or not. On-line stores have no commitment to the consumer. if the price is close, buy local. you won't regret it
