is anyone using the selvages from their batiks?
also, what about the selvages cut from fabric that doesn't have the white & colored dots on it--useful or no?

it got me wondering what happens to the other side w/o the white/dots on it--some of it has holes through it.....

when i cut selvages off, i cut BOTH sides off, not just the white/dot side

Will try to get her to take a pic and send it to me--she does not have the Net at home right now...
She uses 1/4" or wider. prefers 1/2" or so.
I roll them up in a ball using the "cut a slit and pull through" method so there are no knots in the ball. I have sent her eight balls so far, and have four here...about 1/4 the size of a basketball. she is making a BIG rug for her dining room.
a neighbor of mine just brought sheets to me so Jenn(DD) can make her a heart shaped crocheted rug for her kitchen and two for her bathrooms---

Someone on the site used them to make a "Mug rug" and I've actually seen a mini skirt made out of them in my sewing class

This post is timely, I have been cutting off selvage and saving them, lately...didn't know what for but kind of remember someone talking about making rugs out of them...what a great idea.

I use selvedges even if they don't have the dots, though the ones with the dots are prettier I think. I like them because they don't unravel, so I will use the actual selvedge site for my QAYG blocks and I only have to sew down one side. I think I have a pic of this somewhere, I'll see if I can find it for ya. I say, save em and if nothing else you can use em to stuff a pillow with!!

Cheers!

I left 1/4 inch of fabric on the salvage and made my daughter a hot mitt or oven glove with it. Really cute.
