I was wondering what kinds of fees quilt appraisers get these days.
Any input would be appreciated!
Thank you all.

I don't know what they are charging these days. I suggest you try a site masondixonquiltpros.com It is an organizaiton of people who do quilt related things for a living. There should be contact information for several appraisers on the site.

AQS (American Quilter's Society) has a program that certifies quilt appraisers. This list is not complete, but you can search by state to find someone near you. http://www.americanquilter.com/about...ers.php?state= Each appraiser has contact info available there.

Check local quilt stores. At our quilt store they have some one apprise two or three times a years. I think it's about $30 to $40.

I think I paid $40 for 1 quilt appraisal, if I remember correctly. It was during a quilt show and it was a 30 minute written appraisal. I had to make an appt - I couldn't just bring it to the show w/o an appt. I was pleased that my g-grandmother's quilt was valued at $650! She asked me a lot of questions, laid the quilt out on a table and really looked it over.

I think there are also verbal appraisals. My local guild is having a show this weekend and there will be an appraiser there. I wish I had planned better cause I have a couple more quilts I would like appraised.

Thank you ladies, these are just the sort of details I'm looking for. I know some local quilt shows have had appraisers, and you had to make an appointment, but never knew the approximate fee. I would definitely want the written variety.
Carrieg, have you submitted your appraisal to your insurance carrier? I'm sure your grandmother's quilt is irreplaceable, but it might be beneficial to get it accounted for with them.
You say the appraiser asked a lot of questions...I'm sure that was to help her date the fabrics. For a self-made (newer) quilt, I'm assuming it would be wise to bring along records (or evidence) of your fabrics value/origins. Any input on that?

I have only had appraisals done during the Dallas show and they were $40. It is a real bargain. The appraisals include photos, letter and information as to why the amount of appraisal. I try to take at least one per show. Sometimes I take 2!
