I have a quilt I am taking to have long armed and I need to buy batting. I am looking at the prices and see that buying it by the huge roll is SOOOO much cheaper in the long run.

How many of you buy it by the big roll? What is the average price? What is an average loft to buy? Where do you get it?
THANKS !

I bought a bolt- 40 yards x 90" wide Warm N Natural from Joann's at 50% off before Christmas. it costs about $2.00 a yard less. Felt guilty not getting it from lqs, but it's a substantial savings when you are serious about your quilting obsession.

I like having it handy, I can see exactly how much is left. I always seemed to need batting even though I would buy enough for 2 or 3 quilts at a time.

I am on my 4th bolt of the 40 x 90 Warm and Natural. This last time I bought it from JoAnns.com, they had a 50% off sale and an additional coupon for 10% off. I think I paid around $160 something and it was delivered to my front porch. Deffinately the way to go. They almost never have a whole bolt at the stores.

I buy a roll 90 wide by 40 yards from a place that sells it at wholesale prices. And it's shipped right to my Canadian door. :) It was cheaper for me to do that than buy it locally at 18.00/meter. :)

I buy Hobbs by the roll from Hancocks of Paducah. I like the cotton 80/20. Have bought several rolls - use it for everything.

I see it is "on sale" at joanns right now. Is this always on sale or did I just happen to look on the right week? It isn't on the sale flyer, or I couldn't find it there anyways :)

No it is not always on sale. Sometimes it is on sale for 40%off, sometime 50% off and sometimes at regular prices. But it does go on sale fairly often. If it's not on sale, they regulary put out a 40 or 50% off coupon that you might be able to use toward it.

I'd buy it by the roll if I had somewhere to put it when it was delivered  (That evil eye is for my DH)

I store mine in the garage in the box it came in. There is no room for a car in there. I also have a few tubs of fabrics and lots of crafting supplies etc. Fortunately I havn't had any spiders or bugs find their way into my batting.
