If you enter a quilt into a contest, but have it quilted by someone else, is it stated on the entry? Or do you just get the credit for the quilt?

Some shows will have a separate category for "Duo" quilts,
some shows lump them together with other group quilts (Duos and, say, Round Robins),
and some might let the same quilt compete in the general contest against all other quilts.

It's totally up to the show's organizers so you could see the same quilt in different categories at different shows.

But credit should ALWAYS be given - even if it's not asked for specifically on the application :roll: - to the quilter (LA, DSM, or hand) if it was someone different from the piecer/designer/owner of the quilt.

Personally, for smaller guilds shows, I like the Duo category.
I think it's a fair way of categorizing the quilts for competition on that level.

Eta: NOPE , they do have a two person category.

For example, Linda V Taylor & Cheri Meineke-Johnson have made numerous award winning quilts.

Also, there's a couple out of the Netherlands that also collaborate on quilts at that level.

I think the quilter should get credit for the quilting regardless of whether she was paid for it. She wouldn't share in any prize money, however, if paid for the quilting.

It would be the same as saying you did the quilting if you don't give credit. That would be a big lie.

my my such a can of worms is the issue of paid for quilting.

As to the judging. If the quilt is not in a two person,group or duo category then the judge never knows and it is judged as one entry/piece. However, a judge quickly begins to recognize the same quilting. How it is entered is up to the show committee. I often wonder if a quilt is assumed to be made by one person and there are comments about the quilting (done by another) if that quilter ever knows what the comments were. Unless there is a category for duo quilts then it is up to the one who entered to indicate details about the quilting. Judges never see (well almost never) what is on the entry form. We might sometime ask for the title of the quilt, but to me that is about all we should ethically know about the quilt. I will add that sometime I might ask if the quilt was made by a young person so additional encouragement can be given.

Credit should ALWAYS be given where due---if you did not do all the work- it is not right for you to claim credit for all the work.

Both names are given. Most of the bedsize quilts in the show I attended yesterday had both names listed. But you must inquire specifically the Organizer/Sponsor of each Contest you wish to enter. They are the Rulemakers.
