How do you document your quilts? Or do you??? I guess I want to since I am fairly new at this, and also for insurance purposes. I don't want a complete diseratation on the quilt, but I want what is necessary and important.

I take a picture of the quilt, print it out and put all my particulars on the bottom of the page and keep in a 3 ring binder.

Check with your insurance company, most of them will not cover quilts.

Our local quilt guild has several ladies that do the documentation. You may want to contact your local quilt guild in your area. If they don't do it, I am sure they can recommend someone that does.

I also have a 3-ring binder - each quilt has a photo and samples from the fabric, and sample square (if there was a test one or left-over). Who the quilt went to, photo of the label, and I also try to get a photo of the quilt in its new home with its new owner.

I often do a 'quilt story' when I'm gifting - why I chose this pattern for this person, what it means to me. For example, I did a 'sunshine & shadows' for a wedding gift, as for me it symbolized all the good days and tough days to come - to know that you can't appreciate the good days without those rough patches :)

The pattern source is detailed (where I got it, who designed it, where I deviated from pattern, etc). If I did a mock-up in EQ, a print out of that too.

Thank you cards go in here too!

I've taken a picture of each quilt and saved them to a flash drive which goes in my fire proof box. I also have a binder with the original patterns & info on fabrics used & dates completed.

I just take pictures every so often as I'm making them, any notes that I take goes in a file. pics are transfered to flash drive, not on computer. I also date the start and finish. I dont keep track of price. every time I buy fabric I take a pic and file it on flash drive. I also have pics of all my software and sewing machines anything related to my sewing room is documented.
