Default Dresden Plate Applique Help Needed.

I need help - my awesome Mother in Law gave me these quilt blocks her mom made. They need to be appliqued down. I have done the satin stitch with some of them but the next top I make with them I would really like to hand applique down. I haven't done it that way and am wondering the best method for doing it or if you know of any tutorials that I can watch to help me know how to do it. Thanks in advance for the help. Y'all are always so helpful! -Jennifer

I've only done a short button hole stitch around the blocks I've made. I like the looks of that. Haven't hand appliqued any.

There are plenty of YouTube's and usually advice in quilting books and some magazines have instruction section. There is a good tube showing how to hide the stitches sorry can't for the life of me remember the name. It is a heart being stitched.

with such traditional plates, i would use a blanket stitch. whatever color you use for the blanket stitch, you can use for the sashing [if any] or the binding. what a treasure the plates are.

I would hand applique. If you are unsure how to applique, search for a YouTube tute. How lucky to have these blocks, and how generous of your DMIL!

Several ways you could applique them by hand. You could do the traditional hand applique where the stitches do not show. You could do a blanket stitch around them in a blending or contrasting color. You could also do a running stitch to hold them in place. I have seen them done all those different ways. There are probably even more...like you could use some embroidery stitch besides the blanket stitch if you wanted. How wonderful for you to have the blocks!
