I bought several precut kits from www.fussycutter.com and every piece was on grain, and perfectly cut. Give her a try before you give up on precut kits. You will be impressed, I was. (Not affiliated, just impressed.)

I just purchased a "kit" from Craftsy and it did not have the pattern with it - is this common??

A lot of their patterns are downloads. Go to your patterns on the craftsy site and see if it's there.
