Default Quilt labels before or after washing quilt?

Hi,

Quick question for you all. Do you add your quilt label (after binding, of course) before you throw it in the washer or after it's all washed and crinkled? I can't seem to find any answer via Google. Thanks! I just plan on making a pieced fabric label and use a fabric marker.

This is how I plan to do mine. It would be sewn on under the binding so obviously done before washing. I would think adding a label to crinkled fabric after washing would be more challenging

most of mine are in the corner with the binding attached over the label edges.

Yes, I had planned to put it under my binding, but forgot, and sure not taking it off now! lol So, in this instance, how would you all go about it?

I read somewhere that the label should be put on with the binding so it is harder to remove. Some I think even add it before quilting for the same reason.

I use to put it on before washing. Because I want to make sure the writing holds up. But sometimes forget.

I would just hand stitch it to the back and then wash.

At the current stage, attach the label before blocking. If you can copy the quilting stitches, quilt over the label.

Attached is my quilt label. Fusible web is attached to the fabric. My name is written in bubble letters and cut out. It's fused to the backing and outline stitched, several times. Then the quilt is sandwiched and quilted. Blocked, then bound. Then any details are written on the label: last name, size, address, name of quilt, date finished.
