I am not going to renew my quilt magazines. Almost all of their featured quilts are machine quilted. I love to hand quilt and I would like to get ideas for hand quilting a quilt. On the cover of a fairly recent magazine, the featured quilt was so full of machine quilting that it had to be stiff as a board. The quilting needs to complement the quilt, not take over it. I spend a lot if time and money on a quilt that I want the focus to be on the whole quilt and not solely on the quilting. I'm sure there are tons of people who will think that I am ridiculous, but those are my thoughts.

To hand quilt is as wonderful as any machine quilting! There are just so many different choices and preferences that we all have. I hope that hand quilting is never a lost art because it is beautiful and such a wonderful skill. Enjoy your quilting and show us when your finished.

I love all aspects of hand quilting. Just deciding how I am going quilt each piece gives me such a thrill.

Just because the quilts are machine quilted in the magazine, does not mean you can't make them and hand quilt them.

good luck at finding any magazine that features hand quilting. the samples have to be made fast to take advantage of the life time of the fabric design.
but that doesn't mean you can't just clock out the machine quilting and do your own thing. Check out the designs on one of the stencil web sites for ideas.

there are a couple places to visit---for hand quilting inspiration-
the "hand quilting blog spot" is one- but if you do a search - just type in 'handquilting designs' or handquilting forums
you will find many lists- there are even a couple magazines available that concentrate more on the hand quilting side of the craft.
i have found some great quilting designs (machine designs) that worked great for hand quilting too...i look everywhere for inspiration!

While I love hand quilting, I am not able to do it anymore due to RA. I send mine out and pay a pretty penny to have them quilted, but I make sure that the machine quilter knows not to over quilt it. The gal I use does beautiful heirloom quality quilting and has been featured quilter in Portland a number of times at various shows. It is up to the owner of the quilt to make it known what she wants on her quilt. Just my opinion. Jan

A lot of the magazines are looking for suggestions on what you would like to see. E-mail the editor and post it on their Facebook page. You would be amazed. They have all been posting the same question on their blogs and facebooks....what would you like to see?
