Yesterday I took a road trip with a group of friends...we went to the newly opened Quilt Museum in a restored barn (It had formerly been in a small farmhouse-on the same property)...if you are anywhere close to driving distance, I highly recommend you make the trip sometime. The exhibit we saw included many different forms of needle art as well as quilts, both antique and modern, some awesome rug hooking (with small 3/16th" strips), some antique woven coverlets, etc...it was well worth the admission. In the old farmhouse they had a display of silk-painted wall quilts by an artist (can't remember her name, sorry)...the colors just glowed...they were awesome.

Then we had a delicious lunch and went to 2 quilt shops there. Our day was full enough without doing other shopping, but Cedarburg is just full of shops to be explored.

Always fun to spend a day with friends, this day was just great...the weather was good, trees were beautiful...lots of color changing going on. The next display will include a quilted "Yurt" (a round fabric covered dwelling). They will also be teaching classes at the museum, and holding other special events. It is about 1-3/4 hours from here...so a doable drive when there are events/displays going on that we will want to go back for.

Enjoy if you go!

Sounds like you had a great day. Wish we had something like this around here.

We are fortunate to have this museum in our area and it is well worthwhile to make the trip. Cedarburg can be reached from highway 60, 57 and I-43. The people who joined the membership of the museum worked very hard to get the money to remodel the barn and makeit what it is today.
My hat goes off to you all.
Get a bus load together and spend the day in Cedarburg, you will not be disappointed.

Cedarburg is to the north of Milwaukee.

Here is link to the museum website:

and to the artist's website I couldn't remember earlier:

Click on the gallery-and you can see the quilts we saw yesterday...but even more gorgeous in person!
