A friend of mine would like to make a quilt for a poster bed and would not like it "bunched" at the corners. Any ideas as to how this can be done?

Make the top a little larger than the top of the mattress, and then add borders for the sides and bottom, but with the corners cut out. (So if you were to lay it flat, it would look like a rectangle with the two bottom corners missing) that way the bottom and the sides can hang free and there is a cut out for the posts.

It would have to be split at the bottom where the corners are so the sides would hang free and the bottom could be tucked in.....hopefully the pattern you choose will make it easy to do ....It would look like it had a big square cut from each bottom corner....good luck!!!Show us what you come up with!!

    Put a slit the corners.

Then bind around the slits creating a opening for the quilt to lay flat the posts will be in between the slits... does this make sense?

I attached a picture to show you what I mean.
the blue is the quilt and the white is empty- (no fabric)

That's how a lot of the old quilts were made. Good pic.

Check out the pattern section at the fabric store. They sell patterns for this type of bedspread, they can be easily adapted to a quilt. :D:D:D

I am planning on making this type of quilt for my bed. I am going to leave the foot just a plain piece of quilted fabric. I have a sleigh bed, so it will not show, anyway.
