Test drive, test drive, test drive. Go to shows, check shops that sell them, search out dealers. If you find one that is being sold 2nd hand, try it out before you buy. You will be spending a fairly large sum of money for a LA, test driving will help you decide what will be the best for you.

The Machine Quilter's Showcase is in Wichita in May - I've never been but you can google for information. I've heard they have many vendors with long arm machines. May be worth a trip if you don't live too far. I purchased an HQ after a couple years of research and testing driving. Many quilt shows have several long arm dealers so you can see and test several in one venue. Good luck.
