You can get the French Roses pattern on amazon or eBay
I made a frayed edge blue jean and flannel quilt for my son years ago. That's still his favorite blanket. They can be washed. In fact, you do wash them a couple of times right away to encourage the fraying. It's best to do this at the laundromat because of the mess, but I did it at home. Here's some general instructions:

My favorite quilt tops are Grandmother's Flower Garden, Lone Star, Double Wedding Ring, most traditional nine patch, Irish chain especially in two colors, postage stamp and postcard scrappy quilts.
