Hi. I am fairly new to pieced quilts. I have made a spiderweb quilt front in a king size. Will have to piece the back into 3 strips to get it to size.
When I am hand quilting would it be better that I quilt the design on the backing or on the pieced front? I have a template of paisley for my quilting pattern.
All of my previous quilts have been stitch in the ditch quilted front pieces.

Cousin Laura holding up the top, partially done.

I always do my handquilting from the front, but I know some machine quilters, quilt on the backing.

Put the quilting design on the front (or the "technical" term, the quilt top). That looks beautiful!

If I am using a template isn't the design the same front and back? Top and back.

The design will be the same on the front and back. It is the placement that you can control better from the front or top. Your top looks lovely.

If your backing fabric has a print that you can follow for your quilting design, you can quilt it from the back and you end up with a wonderful allover quilting design on the front.
