I am thinking of making some Quilted pot holders even with applique, has anyone made these? Tell me what i need for the middle batting.
I though this would be a cute present for an engagement gift.
thanks..

I've made a lot of them-they're quick and easy and make nice gifts. I use Insulbrite, not batting inside. Remember not to quilt them a lot-too many needle holes take away the heat protection.
Post pictures of what you make--would love to see them and get a few more ideas.

When you use the Insul-brite either use two layers or add a layer of cotton batting. I made quite a few for xmas presents. I didn't use a double layer in some, and you can still feel the heat through the potholder. This way you can be sure. Also, you could use some old towels in the middle instead. Do not use poly batting, as it will melt with the heat.

I use InsulBrite also, with two layers of batting underneath. A pinwheel is a simple design to make a pot holder out of or a 9 patch. Not sure I would invest the time into appliqueing something that will take some abuse.
Be sure to share pictures of what you make!

And you will need two layers of batting with the Insulbrite.
If you see some plain inexpensive potholders that look like they'll wash, applique on those, they will still look great and get a lot of use.
