Am in the process of covering up the pieces of the sweatshirt with the strips of squares. Has anyone done a bit of quilting on the top before putting it back together?
Thanks.

Another thing I wondered about was buttonholes? I am thinking of putting buttons on the front. And again I wonder if I should do this before I sew it back together.

I did some FMQ on mine too prior to putting back together.... I <3 it! And it was easy to do because they were all smaller pieces.....

I used decorative stitches to attach the patches of fabric as I went. If your patches are secure, I don't see why not. I have only made one so far. Oh and I attached Frog closures when it was sewn back together.

Thanks. Will do just a bit of quilting on it, the pieces are not that large, so would be easy at this point.

I would most definately do this before assembly. I would be sure to use some interfacing where you plan on placing the buttonholes. This can be done with a solid strip.

You might want to think about having a buttonhole placket of just fabric. Somewhat like having a double placket in the front or like the hidden plackets on some jackets etc.

Also it is possible to make the quilted fabric first in one large piece, then quilt to the sweater layer. I've also seen two separate quilted layers with the sweater sandwiched between making the jacket reversal.

Keep us updated with pictures and be sure to ask questions as well.

If the shirt is getting a trifle snug at this point, have you thought of doing the button holes in a binding? Interface the binding.
