Does anyone on the board have and use this machine? The reviews are roughly 50/50 for and against purchase. I just want some additional decorative stitches and a reliable quarter inch foot. I don't wish to spend more than $300 on any machine and necessary feet. What do you all think?

I have this modle. I think my expectations were off. I was expecting it to be like the older singers. I still use it, but mostly just for the fancy stitches. I find it to be okay, but a realy light weight in what it will and will not sew through. Doesn't like to sew through denim, or flannels much. I got the compatable walking foot to help, but it didn't seem to make much difference. The feed dogs don't lower so I couldn't FMQ with it. Doesn't do too bad at SID but I find I have to pull the quilt through it get it to sew it. If you are just wanting this to straight piece and use the fancy stitches it would be fine for that. I just feel if I'm going to shell out $200 I should get more for my buck.

I have this machine and use it daily..love the deco stitches. the feed dogs do lower in the back of the machine for fmq but I have tried alittle and need alot more practice. I have made several bow tucks purses and with the fleece and fabric I have had no issues. I have made several quilt tops and baby blanket and sewed thru jeans and a lettermens coats and all good. Mine too did jump time and took it in and got back in a week and the auto tention is off but will have to go back to shop. all in all I am happy with the machine so far and like I said I do use it almost daily as it is the only machine I have set up. I too am partial to the older singers but I didn't like changing cams and felt I deserved something nicer. so to each their own and now that I have said this I sure hope and pray it doesn't bite me in the butt and the machine go wacky.
